The Foundation of United Methodist Beliefs

At House of Faith Open Bible Church, we are proud to be a part of the United Methodist community. With a rich history spanning centuries, United Methodism is grounded in a set of core beliefs and principles that guide our faith and shape our daily lives.

Understanding the Scriptures

United Methodists believe in the authority of the Holy Scriptures, which serve as a foundation for our beliefs and practices. The Bible is considered the ultimate source of truth and serves as a guide for understanding God's will and teachings.

It is our commitment to study the Scriptures diligently, as we believe they contain God's message of love, redemption, and salvation.

The Trinity and God's Love

United Methodists affirm the belief in the Holy Trinity – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We understand God as one, yet existent in three distinct persons. Our faith is centered on the unconditional love of God, which is exemplified through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Through Christ's sacrifice, we are offered the opportunity for forgiveness, reconciliation, and eternal life. Our actions and interactions with others are guided by the commandment to love one another, just as God loves us.

Salvation and Grace

We believe that salvation is a gift from God, offered to all who accept and believe in Jesus Christ. It is through God's grace that we are saved, and not by our own efforts or good deeds.

While good works are important, they are not a means to earn salvation. Instead, they are a response to God's love and an expression of our faith.

Sacraments and Rituals

United Methodists observe two sacraments – baptism and Holy Communion. Baptism is seen as a sign of initiation into the Christian community, representing a spiritual rebirth and a commitment to follow Christ.

Holy Communion, also known as the Lord's Supper, is a means of receiving God's grace and forgiveness. It serves as a reminder of Christ's sacrifice and an opportunity for spiritual nourishment.

Social Justice and Outreach

As United Methodists, we believe that our faith should be lived out in love and service to others. We are called to alleviate suffering, fight injustice, and advocate for the vulnerable and marginalized.

This commitment to social justice is rooted in our belief that all people are created in the image of God and deserve dignity, equality, and basic human rights.

Unity in Diversity

United Methodism embraces diversity and promotes inclusivity. We recognize that people have different understandings and interpretations of faith and theology. We value respectful dialogue and believe that diverse voices enrich our understanding of God's truth.

While we may differ in certain theological perspectives, we strive to find common ground and work towards the shared mission of spreading God's love and transforming the world.
